Strange Light in Sky
Rural Population Alarmed by Appearance Early Today.
Persons residing in the rural districts, and city residents who are wont to arise early in the morning, witnessed a strange phenomenon in the sky early this morning.
About 5 o'clock a red light appeared in the northwestern sky and it grew larger and larger until it appeared as if it might be the reflection of some big fire in the sky. The light seemed to be moving nearer and nearer, although remaining in the same position in the sky. Later, the light began moving eastward and vanished in the sky far to the east.
The light was visible for more than a half hour and it was watched continuously by many rural residents.
Some persons are inclined to credit the phenomena [sic] as being a "war cloud" portending the entrance of the country into the world war.
