At a "Savannah, Florida & Western Railway" depot, a strange phenomenon was seen:

Transcription of the Atlanta Constitution article:

Queer Things in Georgia.

The Jesup Sentinel tells this one:
"The strangest thing that has ever been seen in this section was seen last Saturday night in the railroad yards, just in front of the Savannah, Florida and Western depot. It arose from the ground and acted just as a lightning bug, only it had a green light instead of white, and was about forty times the size of a lightning bug. The sight was witnesses [sic] by Messrs. S. F. Ellis and Wash Williams and Mr. Murphy, the express agent. Some wanted to catch it, while others were advancing the opposite way, but it soon disappeared toward the sky and left the boys wondering what it was. The Sentinel thinks it must have been what is called a Jack-o'-lantern. The gentlemen mentioned being of sober habits makes this a mystery not easily solved."
