Sighting
In 1719, in Bologna, Papal States (now Italy), a fireball was seen. It was shining like the rising sun and its surface bore four gaps which diffused smoke and flames. Its altitude above the earth's surface was estimated 16,000 to 20,000 "footsteps" and its true diameter 3560 feet. It diffused a strong odor like sulfur and burst with an explosion.
