Sighting
"A large streak of fire resembling a bar of red rot iron, stretched from about 60 degrees above the horizon in a straight line to the zenith, and terminated in a sharp point. The base presented a phosphorescent light from which the strange luminous bar appeared to rise. The whole length of the bar which extended over a little more than one-fourth of the heavens, emitted a beautiful silvery light which seemed to surround it. No report was heard and no motion was visible, but in silent and majestic beauty like an immense bar of red hot iron, or a glittering work it continued until about nine o"clock when it gradually disappeared."
