Approximate date. Quote from the newsclip: "Miss Caffeen was sitting out of doors viewing what to her was a strange sight in the shape of an unusual band or circle of light in the northern heavens in about the same location where it is reported the tail of the recent comet was discovered, when she noticed excited families of the neighborhood in the streets viewing the southeastern sky. A glance in that direction showed her a phenomenon which, in her own words, consisted of 'angel forms in solemn procession marching in stately tread through the realms of space in full view.'"

Following the complete transcription of the newspaper article:

An Angel Army

Hillsboro, Ill., Aug. 21. -
known and truthful lady, Miss O [not discernible]
Caffeen, of Shipman, Ill., who puts in a
portion of her time attending to school
duties at the Indiana Normal college,
relates to her friends at Shipman a
somewhat sensational and exciting
story of a heavenly phenomenon witnessed
by herself and some friends at
Covington, Ind., a night or two since.
Miss Caffeen was sitting out of doors
viewing what to her was a strange
sight in the shape of an unusual band
or circle of light in the northern heavens
in about the same location where it
is reported the tail of the recent comet
was discovered, when she noticed excited
families of the neighborhood in
the streets viewing the southeastern
sky. A glance in that direction showed
her a phenomenon which, in her own
words, consisted of "angel forms in
solemn procession marching in stately
tread through the realms of space in
full view."

In the heavens, marching by two,
was a parade of what appeared to be
human forms clad in flowing robes.
As fast as one company, consisting of
from ten to fifteen couples, would disappear
from view another would take
its place and the visitation lasted ten
minutes. The forms were so life-like
that seemingly the movements of the
limbs could be distinguished.

The people of Covington were at the
time greatly excited at the angel visitation,
and in several instances families
carried invalids out of doors that they
might view the scene. The occurrence
took place between 9 and 10 o'clock in
the evening, and has since been the
general theme of conversation at Covington.
The forms of the spirit visitors
were to all appearances covered by
gauzy substance, and their existence
companies was to the eye through
space of probably 30 deg. in a northwestward
direction.
