Sighting

Id 70
Date 1896-11-12
Location USA / Iowa / Monmouth, near Davenport
Database p unknown

"A Monmouth man about 7 o'clock on Thursday night had his attention called to a bright star nearly straight east, but at first could see nothing peculiar about it. He watched it, however, and after a little while it started to move toward the south. It continued on the same line above the horizon, moving steadily along for several degrees across the sky. Then it stopped, dropped a short distance, stopped again, and then soon moved on the same way. After it had been in sight about two minutes, and when it had made a quarter circle and was directly south, the star stood still for a few seconds, then dropped and went out like a common meteor. It was a strange sight and one a little difficult of explanation."
